In Ukraine, in addition to Petrykivka painting, there are many other little-known beautiful types of painting. During Soviet times, they were forgotten and disappeared, but in our time they are being revived. One of these is Slobozhansky, also known as Starobilsky finger painting, which is made with fingers, and also in a spiral. Slobozhansky painting is a decoration of quite practical objects. Two centuries ago, in Slobozhanska Ukraine, this painting was used to decorate the whitewashed walls of village huts, kitchen boards, basins, but most of all – chests, especially wedding ones.

HISTORY OF THE OCCURENCE OF Slobozhansk painting:
Once, in the distant 17th century, the modern Kharkiv, Sumy, Luhansk and a little bit of Donetsk regions had a single name – Slobodska Ukraine or Slobozhanshchyna. These territories during the times of Kyivan Rus were settled by free Cossacks from the north, and they began to build their settlements – slobodas there. Then they were joined by people from Chernihiv, Poltava, and Middle Dnieper regions. Thus, an entire ethnic region gradually formed, with its own unique folk culture and crafts.
Finger painting technique is the basis of Slobozhansky painting. It is in this way that masters of folk art left their mark in the history of art.
This is a bright, life-giving and unique floral ornamentation.
